What's In Your Purse?

“So the Lord said to him,
“What is that in your hand?” Exodus 4:2
The inspiration for this page came from a dream I had one night. Sandra and I were walking in the beautiful deep woods. The trees were dense and the tree limbs overshadowed the path, which the moon couldn’t penetrate. As we walked on the straight and narrow path, we were able to see only a few feet ahead of us. It was a peaceful walk though, and we knew that we were on an awesome journey together into the unknown. All of a sudden we were able to see afar off into the distance. As we walked forward, we vaguely saw a purse come down and remain suspended in space. As we drew near we could see that it was a brown purse that was made of leather with three seams, two across the front that included the straps and one piece sewn to the bottom. As we approached this enormous purse, Holy Spirit seemed to whisper, “What’s In Your Purse?” At this point I awakened from by slumber.
O how awesome it is when God speaks to us through dreams! (See Dreams and Visions page for more information about the importance of dreams.) Sandra and I prayed into the dream for God to reveal the interpretation. After praying, Holy Spirit revealed many insights for our lives. At the time we were working on the Aspire Ministries site. Therefore, it also birthed the idea to use “What’s In Your Purse?” for an Expresso Girl Talk moment.
You have a unique style and a unique divine design of your very own. There are many ways that you show your personality and one of those is through the of type purse you choose to carry. Do you carry a large, medium or small purse? Do you like leather, cloth, straw, metal or other types of purses? What about the color? Do you like a purse with pizzazz and lots of color? Do you like a purse that makes a subtle elegant statement? Are you a gal that likes a more natural woodsy flair? You probably even have purses for different occasions too. Maybe you like to carry it on your shoulder, in your hand or on your back. And the looming question…”What’s In Your Purse”? I imagine that if you played that old television game show “Let’s Make A Deal” you’d find many unusual and interesting things in your purse.
More importantly, God has a Divine Design for you. He asks the question, "What is that in your hand?" Your purse represents those things that you carry inside and the gifts He has placed deep within. What do you carry around in your purse? Is the stick of gum at the bottom of your purse rich and juicy or is it stale and brittle? Do you have an open wireless communication with the Father containing no boundaries? How about some breath mints to keep your speech fresh and new each day? Are you ready with your keys to the Kingdom or have you misplaced them? Change... are you open to change as the Holy Spirit molds and makes you into all God aspires for you to be? Do you clean out your purse regularly so there is plenty of room for the things Holy Spirit may want to place within? These are some of the questions we will explore. Together we will take a long look through our purses. We will encourage you to glorify God with that which is in your hand (purse).
Right now, I’m sure you are pondering these thoughts. Possibly even thinking about the many colors of purses you’ve had throughout your life. Holy Spirit may be revealing things to you right now that will make a significant impression and change your life. Come journey with us as we look into your purse. We are going to have so much fun sharing practical insights as well as spiritual applications that will revolutionize your life. Never again will you look at your purse in the same light.
